This is the shit left over. All of these things were left in my apartment by the person who previously lived there. I am now forced to live and make do with the world that was left to me by those that came before me. This scenario creates a microcosm of the greater world that I live in. I decided that rather than throwing away or selling these things that I would reconstitute them to make useful objects that take into account their previous life, and that of their previous owner. The things that we own essentially create our identity. There are reasons why we surround ourselves with the things that we do. A lot can be discovered about a person by looking at theirs things. Upon cataloging and studying the shit left over, the theme of identity began to emerge. I began to recognize a dichotomy between the identity of the previous owner outside of the apartment and the identity inside the apartment. . On one hand the pile of very severe looking law books with titles like Constitutional Law and Pleading and Procedure as well as hundreds of dry cleaners, wire hangers and an ironing board indicate a very clean intellectual an professional identity outside of the apartment. There was a giant container of whey protein shake mix as well as sodium tablets and laxative pills which are sometimes used by bodybuilders to achieve their top physical shape. On the other hand there were other artifacts which contradict this lifestyle. There was a big gaudy oversized television, a Playstation, a Nintendo 64, Brianna Banks porn, 16 rolls of paper towels, tons of paper plates. These things create a different picture in my head. I see this person lazily lounging around the apartment, eating microwavable burritos off paper plates (for ease of cleaning) and staring open mouthed at the TV playing video games for hours on end. This dichotomy between to life styles and the idea of the façade brought me to the first product that would be created from the shit left over.
