Act Natural

32nd&urban: gallery & space Presents:
ACT NATURAL Exhibition
Exhibition on view April 11, 2008 through May 03, 2008

(Chicago, Illinois)- 32nd&urban: gallery & space presents ACT NATURAL exhibition featuring eleven artists and designers. ACT NATURAL will be on view from Friday, April 11th through Saturday, May 3rd. An opening reception show will take place on Friday, April 11th from 7:00pm to 11:00pm- the event is open to the public and the artists will be present. Deejay services provided by Tevo Howard. Liquids will be served.
The exhibition ACT NATURAL brings together artists and designers to meditate on the capacity for our interior surroundings to ‘bring us closer to nature’. It poses the question of how our inanimate objects offer insight into the nature of things, or remind us of our commonality. The exhibition also challenges us to consider how our domestic spaces reflect the greater environment; in form, material or function.

*Fashion for the Arts Event!*
What: A fashion show fundraiser featuring Chicago’s local and student designers.

Why: To raise $50,000 for Chicago Arts Partnership in Education (C.A.P.E) as well as to give up and coming designers an opportunity for exposure. C.A.P.E. is a Chicago based organization dedicated to strengthening education in the Chicago public school system by incorporating art into core classes such as math, history and English. Through the hands on approach that art provides, teachers are better able to reach their students mentally and students become passionate about what they are learning.

When: December 16th, 2007 from 5-9pm. There will be a reception before the show where attendees can browse booths set up by local businesses, boutiques and designers. The vendors will donate a percentage of their proceeds. Drinks and food will be served and the show itself will start roughly at 7pm.

Where: The Galleria Marchetti 825 West Erie. http://www.galleriamarchetti.com/index.html

Update October 2007
October 1 2007,
About a month ago I moved from my beloved Chicago to Atlanta to pursue a position as industrial designer at a fantastic design firm called Formation Design Group. Atlanta and I have not yet reached acquiescence. I curse it's haphazard urban planning almost daily and last week it broke into my car and stole my wallet. We have some issues to work through...
My job on the other hand, I love. Formation Design is a rather small company. (7 people total) Formation proves that size really doesn't matter. For the past two years, Business Week Magazine has ranked Formation #2 design firm in the nation, second only to IDEO, a very established multi-national firm. I'm learning a lot and very quickly. We are working on some very interesting projects for some equally as interesting clients. Check out http://www.formationdesign.com
Aside from that I am as always, pushing my own work forward. My last show, "Superstitious" received a good amount of press. The Cumulus Light Canopy will soon appear in book entitled "Ecological Design" by Fusion Press and published by TeNeues. It will also appear in IDN World magazine in Hong Kong, Urbis Magazine in New Zealand, Innovative Home Magazine here in the United States, as well as other magazines and countless websites. The Object Frames will appear in "500 Decoration Details: Minimalism" published by Taschen in 7 languages. They have also made an appearance on several websites.
Please stay tuned for further updates.

"Superstitious"
Attention!!! Despite the universe's attempts to thwart my efforts towards a design exhibition on Friday the 13th, I have prevailed. The show will go on at 1915 S Halsted, Chicago, IL 60608. "Superstitious" opens at 6:00pm on this coming Friday the 13th of July. Come one, come all but come at your own risk...
- Come enjoy the music, hors d'oeuvres, refreshments and experience all new work by Steven Haulenbeek.
Rats!!!
My Friday the 13th of July show will no longer be at forme gallery as mentioned in Chicago Home Magazine. I'll post a new venue right here as soon as I pin one down...
