One day I noticed that almost every time I was waiting for something, I was standing beside some sort of post. Whether it is a train platform or bus stop, there is always a post that indicates where to stand and wait. At post offices, airports and banks, there are the corral-like systems of posts and ropes where we wait arduously for the chance to conduct our business. I decided that rather than making a seat which functions on its own and has its own inherent structure, I would make an object that relies on the structural elements already in place.
By definition, a parasite is an organism that lives in or on another organism (it’s host) and benefits by deriving nutrients from the host. This is the driving concept of my design. By exploiting the structural attributes of all the vertical posts in the urban landscape, this parasitical attachment affords new opportunities to rest.
