Curatorial Proposal:

As you know, the second Friday event in July is Friday the 13th. This date for most people conjure up thoughts of slasher movies, anarchy, bad luck and of course superstitions. I have decided to make superstition the theme of my current body of work.
This sounds like a very straightforward, themed art exhibition but my intentions for this show are much more. I am by nature a conceptual artist, and I am by choice a designer of objects. This exhibition will lie in the grey area between conceptual art and functional product design. My goal in my design work is to expand boundaries and change common perceptions about what design can be. I am interested in products that are not based in common typologies but rather in innovative concept, which explore alternate levels of functionality and value. In creating this type of product design work and showing these pieces as art and among art, I hope to stimulate the rather dormant design community in Chicago.
I hope to exhibit 3 product installations. All of these will involve functional objects of my design while calling to reference ideas of human nature and superstition.
